'Transformers 5' spoilers: New characters to join Optimus Prime while Mark Wahlberg stays

"Transformers 5" is on its way to becoming another blockbuster for Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures. Despite receiving mixed reviews for "Age of Extinction," its box office appeal still earned the movie $1 billion worldwide. Hearing that the franchise will return for another installment, many wonder, what will "Transformers" have to offer now?

There's not a shadow of a doubt that Paramount will have the odds stacked against them this time around. For one, the critics have been saying that the film franchise lacks story and that this reason could lead to the fall of the "Transformers" movie line.

Another challenge is finding a replacement for director Michael Bay, who has expressed his interest in leaving the franchise and moving on to do other things in his career. Bay has been the sole director of the four movies and it is a huge question whether "Transformers" will survive without him.

On the other hand, could having a new director be the exact change the franchise needs? It is not only Bay's presence that is in question here. According to reports, there may be more fresh faces that will join the cast to completely refresh "Transformers 5." This is, of course, with the exception of Mark Wahlberg as he already confirmed his return

Megan Fox, who was the female lead in the first two movies, was also rumored to be returning to the movie. While it will be hard to do that due to her affiliation with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," she did express her interest in returning for a cameo.

"If [Bay] ever wanted me to do a cameo like assembling an Autobot motorcycle in a bike shop or something like that, I would totally do it," Fox told E! News

As for the new director, rumors are pointing to Jonathan Liebesman from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." According to Screen Rant, he will be the best guy to replace Bay in directing "Transformers 5." And since Liebesman hasn't been confirmed to return for "TMNT 2," there just might be a chance of this happening.

Filming will start soon. "Transformers 5" will hit theaters in summer of 2016.
