While the team behind the hit DC Comic adaptations "The Flash" and "Arrow" are quite dedicated with tipping off details about their latest superhero-themed project, they never really mention more concrete information other than the spinoff's cast members.
However, it looks like actor John Wesley Shipp, who plays Henry Allen in "The Flash," did it for them already. In an interview with Comic Con 2015 in Missouri, the 60-year-old actor may have let the title of the spinoff slip. He called the upcoming series "Legends," which has sent fans into a guessing game.
With the word "Legends" as the only clue, media outlets scoured through the DC universe to find a story that will somehow match and link "The Flash" and "Arrow."
Interestingly, there is a comic bearing that title and it is one that was released in the late 1980s. The comics is a crossover event that involves Darkseid's promise to Phantom Stranger that soon, the Earth will condemn superheroes and will eventually be a hostile place for the super crimefighters. This culminates to the Apokolips ruler launching a brutal crusade against superheroes.
There is also one titled "Legends of the DC Universe" that came out several years afterward. This was a monthly 41-issue anthology type of series that featured different superheroes set in a not-so time-sensitive DC cosmos. One issue actually linked on "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
Lastly, many believe that "Legends" may be a word from the spinoff's longer title, which had them thinking that the show may be called "Legends of Tomorrow." However, this title does not link to any DC Comics.
Others, on the other hand, think "Legends" is simply a working title. The spinoff is said to be the home of two new big DC Comics villains that will debut on the small screen.
Confirmed cast members in "The Flash" reprising their roles in the new series include Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/one half of Firestorm), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold) and Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heatwave). "Arrow" is represented by Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/ The Atom) and Caity Lotz (Sara). Ciara Renée was also confirmed to star as Hawkgirl and Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter.
Shipp revealed that the team will be working on 13 episodes of the spinoff soon.
