'The Voice' season 7 premiere Sept. 22: Coaches speak up on upcoming competition

No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani and N.E.R.D. lead singer Pharrell Williams will be joining "The Voice" Season 7. Together with the show's mainstay experts Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, they recently spoke to Billboard about their sentiments on the hit series.

Shelton called out to people who do not believe in the influence of singing in competition shows, citing Miranda Lambert as a significant example of a musician who started out on "Nashville Star" and eventually rose to fame.

Newcomer Gwen Stefani gave similar comments and mentioned how "The Voice" has become a valuable foundation for artists in the past years. "This is music right now," the "Push and Shove" singer said. "This is where we're at."

Levine shared his personal taste and habits when it comes to music and admitted that he has been "very rooted in the classics."

"There are 50 records I listen to over and over again, most of them coming before 1985," the Maroon 5 crooner said.

Williams cited the need for aspiring music artists to share their own personal stories for them to increase their chances of "being the lead singer" as opposed to singing in the background.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift had already signed on the "The Voice" season 7 as a mentor to all of the show's hopeful contenders. A source for Us Weekly reported that the 24-year-old singer "was an absolute pleasure to work with."  The singer has recently worked on the film "The Giver" and performed at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Alongside the "I Knew You Were Trouble" hitmaker, other guest mentors have been included in "The Voice" season 7 lineup, namely Stevie Nicks (Team Adam), Bush singer Gavin Rossdale (Team Stefani), Little Big Town (Team Blake) and Alicia Keys (Team Williams).

The upcoming seventh season of the hit singing competition show will have a Sept. 22 premiere on NBC.
