'Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Stefan devises a plan to save Caroline, will Damon drive Elena away for good in episode 19 'Because'?

The Vampire Diaries CW

When the news bout Nina Dobrev's imminent departure from "The Vampire Diaries" broke, fans of the series were taken aback and the vampire world was shaken for a second. But before the star officially makes her way out, there are a couple of things her character needs to take care of.

First, her best friend is still running around killing people. Caroline is still far from getting her humanity back and Elena is growing more worried about her and her victims. In the upcoming episode of "The Vampire Diaries," Elena along with Damon and Stefan will try to get Caroline back to her senses.

Episode 19 titled "Because" will see the trio devise a plan, with Stefan, who thankfully gained his humanity, doing most of the hard part. The Salvatore brother who came to love Elena's best friend will act like his humanity is still off then "torture her until she breaks."

This does not sound good at all. Although it looks like the Caroline viewers came to know is likely to return soon, Stefan will have to worry about something else- the strain in their relationship presumably brought about by his plans.

Elena, of course, is a bit skeptical about the plan as she herself saw how their previous attempts to save her went downhill. She is also struggling to adjust (or at least out with the awkwardness) with the fact that romance between her ex-lover and her best friend has brewed.

But apart from that, Elena thinks about living life as a mere human being more than anything else. The pre-med student dreams about starting a family but being a vampire has its complications. For Elena, being one restrains her from the future she wants for herself.

But the next "The Vampire Diaries" episode could change all that. Now that Damon has the cure to vampirism, the future they long to have is finally reachable. Unfortunately, Damon himself isn't sure whether he should tell Elena or simply keep things the way they are.

Whatever the decision he arrives at, it seems that it will lead Elena to leave Mystic Falls for good. If Damon gives her the cure, she can pack her bags and start living as a normal gal. If Damon chooses to be mum about something as important as this, it could drive Elena away from him.

If he does not act fast, he may be able to start full-on warfare, which will spell more trouble. A cure that can turn any vampire into a human being is enough to start one.

"We're building towards the outcome of Damon's decision [whether or not to give Elena the cure] and the massive fallout this decision will have on Elena, as well as on everyone else," executive producer Caroline Dries teased to TV Line.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 6 episode 19 "Because" will air on Apr. 23.
