'Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Mystic Falls says goodbye to Sheriff Forbes in episode 15

A screengrab from the promo for "Let Her Go"

The brand new episode of "The Vampire Diaries" will painfully bid its goodbye to Sheriff Forbes, who has been fighting cancer for the longest time. Caroline will be seen at her most vulnerable shape, which worries her best friend Elena who believes that she is not "handling this as well as she thinks she is."

In the episode, Caroline faces the sad reality but as she attempts to do that, Elena notices that her best friend in grief is developing behavior that is not like her at all. A promo video for episode 15 titled "Let Her Go" takes viewers back to the time a young Caroline asks her mother what would happen if she was still in this world and her mother isn't.

"What if you die and I'm still here?" asks the kid who seems to fear knowing the answer to her question.

Her mother is not seen providing a reply but it seems that Caroline herself gets to know the answer herself and it is nothing but excruciating.

Damon is also seen doing a eulogy for Liz, who he calls his "friend." As he comforts the mourning Caroline, he himself is confronted by memories of heartaches and pain when he was once in the same situation.

Elsewhere, Kai is bound to experience "unexpected consequences" of her initially amusing merge with Luke and seeks the help of Alaric, who becomes suspicious of her. Moreover, Matt and Tyler think of going through a big change that is very well upon them. Lastly, Bonnie arrives to a place she is unfamiliar with, Nova Scotia, as she continues her attempts to escape the past and go back into the present time.

"Let Her Go" is the first episode of "The Vampire Diaries" written and directed by executive producer Julie Plec. Episode 15 will be aired on Feb. 19.
