The 35th Golden Joystick Awards is finally over, and with it, tons of big names in the video game industry took home a lot of awards. However, the main game that got the premiere recognition is none other than "Zelda: Breath of The Wild," which bagged the overall Ultimate Game of the Year trophy.
The game also won Nintendo Game of the Year, with "Super Mario Odyssey" in the second place. "Zelda: Breath of The Wild" also won the Critic's Choice Awards, which unlike the Ultimate Game of the Year where the result is voted by the public, is decided by a panel of critics and video game experts. The Best Audio award was also received by the game.
Although the game's development team was not able to attend the ceremony in person due to a conflict in schedule, they were able to release a video acceptance speech, detailing their gratitude for the game's supporters and promises exciting new development for the game in the months to come.
The acceptance speech was headed by Veteran Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma. He was also joined by "Breath of the Wild" art director Satoru Takizawa, technical director Takuhiro Dohta and sound director Hajime Waikai.
Amid the thanks and goals mentioned in the acceptance speech, Aonuma also made a slight quip about "Super Mario Odyssey" which was one of "Zelda: Breath of The Wild's" top contender.
"We're honored that 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' has won this prestigious award," he said. "I'm a little relieved that 'Super Mario Odyssey' had only been out for a week when voting ended!"
The slight joke was because Aonuma feels that they only won the award partly because Switch owners have not got that much time to digest "Super Mario Odyssey." If they had, Zelda would not have gotten the award, but Aonuma made sure it is just a joke to keep the speech refreshing.
This year's Golden Joystick Awards was held at the Bloomsbury Big Top in London on Nov. 17, presented with OMEN by HP. "Horizon: Zero Dawn" bagged the second place for the Ultimate Game of the Year, also winning Best Storytelling and Best PlayStation Game.
The voice actress for the lead character Aloy Ashly Burch also bagged some trophies herself, taking home the Best Gaming Performance and the Breakthrough Award.
