The scarlet speedster is briefly on a holiday break but everyone just won't stop talking about what the midseason premiere of the CW network's superhero series "The Flash" will bring. Well for an early treat, fans will be seeing Mark Hamill take on another iconic role. Twenty years back, Hamill, known as Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars," played the archenemy of the '90s The Flash, then portrayed by John Wesley Shipp.
Now, Hamill was chipped in the new series to once again be Trickster and he hinted it all via Twitter, saying, "Dreaming of dangerous, diabolically depraved new tricks is an unexpected holiday treat. Thank you @CW_TheFlash."
The legendary actor expressed his excitement for the show.
"It's like putting on an old pair of pants in the back of the closet and finding out there's a 20 dollar bill in the pocket. It's like 'Oh, wow! I forgot all about this!' And it's more enjoyable because it's so unexpected," Hamill told IGN. "When they asked me to be a part of it, the last thing I was thinking was that I would be returning to that specific role, but I think you're going to be really pleased with what they've come up with. It was totally unexpected."
[SPOILERS!] Reports claim that Trickster will emerge to take on an imposter, a younger villain who goes by the same name and imitates his string of crimes. In turn, the foe will be forced to forge an alliance with the man whom he has been trying to destroy for years.
Meanwhile, the return of the series will show the fastest man alive trailing The Reverse Flash, who took his mother's life — all that while dealing with being placed in the friend zone by his ultimate crush, Iris West. However, fans are intrigued by the identity of the emerged enemy. Many believe that Eddie Thawne, although exhibiting instantly recognizable charm, might be the one causing all the pandemonium in Central City. He is new in town and not much is known about his background. Only a dark aura follows the new Central City Police Department transfer. Rick Cosnett, who plays Eddie Thawne, keeps details at a minimum so as to not spoil the surprise.
"I hate to say too much. I'm always dancing around what people really want to hear because it's really intriguing, the whole mystery and history behind Eddie Thawne. I have a clear trajectory. The writers have dropped bombs on me as we've sort of gone along, but Eddie is very much the opposite of Barry. The audience is very much in the dark and Eddie, at the moment, is very much in the dark. It's fascinating to play the state of not knowing," the actor said via IB Times.
Fans can quench their growing curiosity by watching the mysteries unfurl as "The Flash" returns on Jan. 20.
