"The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" is the second installment of FX's award-winning limited series, American Crime Story.

The second season of Ryan Murphy's "American Crime Story" has finally released an official trailer, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect on the second iteration of the series. An official premiere date has been set too and it will be shown early January next year. This time, the new season will focus on fashion mogul Gianni Versace's murder, titled "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story."

The trailer was short, but it was already enough to make fans look forward to the upcoming show. The first scene already showed the death of the celebrated fashion mogul, with his partner Antonio D'Amico (Ricky Martin), and sister Donatella (Penelope Cruz), clearly in distraught.

Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss) also got a fair amount of scenes in the trailer, showing his fascination to Gianni Versace (Edgar Ramirez). Cunanan eventually got the chance to meet Versace. There was a scene where Cunanan is on top of a guy in a bed almost fully wrapping the guy's face with tape, but it was not revealed whether the guy is Versace or someone else.

According to Ryan Murphy, the second season of "American Crime Story" will play heavily on the 90's era homophobia. It is important to note that Gianni Versace was openly gay and was in a public relationship with his partner, Antonio D' Amico.

"With American Crime Story, we're always trying to talk about a crime within a social idea. One of the reasons Cunanan was able to make his way across the country and pick off these victims, many of whom were gay, was because of homophobia at the time," Murphy explained.

"Police organizations in Miami refused to put up wanted posters, even though they knew Cunanan had committed many of these murders and was probably headed that way. I thought that was a really interesting thing to examine, to look at again, particularly with the president we have and the world that we live in," he added.

Gianni Versace's death was highly publicized, as he was shot in the steps of his Miami Beach home in 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. Versace was the fifth and final victim of Cunanan, before turning the gun on himself eight days later on a houseboat.

"The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story" premieres on Jan. 17, 2018 at 11 p.m. EST on FX.
