As the widely popular "Tekken" video game celebrates its 20th birthday, "The Idolmaster" celebrates its 10th. And for developer and publisher Bandai Namco, there's no better way to revel on this pair of respective milestones than melding them together.
The game studio recently announced that the ladies in "Tekken 7" will get some "Idolmaster" treatment through costumes. They had a little fun getting the word out by showing Paul Phoenix dressed as an idol and, surprisingly, rocking it. While the fighter won't be donning the gear in the game, this crossover will allow Katarina, Lucky Chloe, Asuka, Kazumi, Lili, Xiaoyu, Alisa, and Josie to dress up as idols Takane, Iori, Haruka, Chihaya, Miki, Yayoi, Yukiho, and Hibiki, respectively.
According to Dual Shockers, this crossover isn't really a shocker. Bandai Namco is fond of giving its franchises a hint of "Idolmaster." Titles like the "Beautiful Katamari" were also infused with the series, as well as others that fans never imagined to be Idol-fied. The likes of "Ace Combat" comes to mind.
"The Idolmaster" is a life simulation game that puts players in the shows of a group of pop idols that are well-known in Japan. It was released back in 2005.
"Tekken 7," meanwhile, is the latest iteration of Bandai Namco's legendary fighting game series. It was recently released in Japanese arcades. It has yet to be made available for the PS4 and Xbox One, although a report from Latino Post claims that the developer will focus on polishing the arcade game so the game will be picture perfect by the time it gets to consoles.
