Taiwanese Chaplain Ministers to Mandarin-Speakers in Manchester
Rev Shou-Hui Chung of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan regularly meets Mandarin-speaking students through her work as chaplain at the St Peter's Church in Manchester, which is sponsored by the Anglican, Baptist, Methodist, and CWM-member United Reformed Church.
Chung, who begun serving there in August 2006, runs conferences and training, leads church services and supervises the Manchester Mandarin Student Christian Movement's Friday activities and meals. She helps with a Mandarin choir and is planning to organise a support group for couples.
She said: "I like to share God's love with people. I have a mission to tell about the Kingdom of God. I really enjoy this work because I have contact with students. This is a two-way process in which I learn from them and they learn from me."
She is also linking Chinese-speaking students with UK students attending university in Manchester by organising activities and encouraging them to attend the local Student Christian Movement service and conference. And she takes students to visit local United Reformed Church services.
