MGM has released a new trailer for its upcoming digital-only TV series "Stargate Origins," which also announces the show's premiere.
The minute-long teaser shows young Catherine Langford, played by Australian actress Ellie Gall, as well as the rest of the cast mostly on ground, a diversion from the usual interstellar adventures featured in the "Stargate" franchise. Some say the teaser looks a lot like an "Indiana Jones" movie, with the protagonists even being confronted by Nazis at some point.
The departure from the usual setting was not unwelcome, however. After all, "Stargate Origins" is meant to uncover unknown mysteries from the beginning of the Stargate adventure.
Set in 1928, "Stargate Origins" follows a young Catherine who embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of the Stargate, which was opened by her father, Professor Langford (Connor Trinneer).
The teaser shows the setting in Egypt and desert planet Abydos, which was then ruled by the personified Egyptian God Ra. While in Abydos, the father and daughter duo are in grave danger. But more important than their lives is to keep the opening of Stargate on Earth a secret, lest they want Ra to unleash his power on human land.
"Stargate Origins" will premiere on Feb. 15, 2018 and will be shown exclusively on the new Stargate Command site. Launched in September, the exclusive platform will not only showcase the series, but will also serve as a forum where fans can talk about anything relating to the franchise.
The series will air 10 episodes, each 10 minutes long. There is a one-time $20 fee to watch the entire series.
First launched in 1994, the "Stargate" franchise started with the 1994 film directed by Roland Emmerich. The movie's success spawned a television series, "Stargate SG-1," which aired for 10 seasons from 1997 to 2007. Announced at the San Diego Comic-Con 2017, "Stargate Origins" was created in honor of the original series' 20<sup>th anniversary.
