'Star Wars: Battlefront' DLC news: 'Rogue One: Scarif' expansion gets release date, key art

The "Rogue One Scarif" expansion for "Star Wars Battlefront" will be released on Dec. 6, less than a couple of weeks before "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hits the big screen.

The downloadable content (DLC) will add four new maps, including the tropical planet of Scarif. Its sandy beaches shown in the trailer for the film will make for a perfect stage for a vibrant and challenging fight.

The "Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One Scarif" DLC should be just the thing to celebrate the release of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" on Dec. 16.

The two new heroes from the DLC will be Rebel leader Jyn Erso and Imperial director Orson Krennic, who will be seen in action in the film. The former can be seen in the first official artwork for "Rogue One Scarif" that was released.

Played by Felicity Jones, Jyn Erso is an operative and also the film's protagonist whose set of skills led her to be recruited by the Rebel Alliance.

Orson Krennic is the antagonist in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and is a superior Imperial official obsessed with the completion of the Death Star. He is played in the film by Ben Mendelsohn.

EA DICE also announced that a new multi-stage game mode, complete with space and ground combat for a dynamic gameplay experience, will also be included in the "Star Wars Battlefront" DLC.

"Rogue One Scarif" will be released next month alongside the "Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission" for the PlayStation VR.

"This free DLC gives you control of your very own X-wing in fully immersive virtual reality—brush up on your piloting skills, stay on target, and prepare to jump through hyperspace as you carry out an important mission for the Rebellion," EA DICE teased on its blog.

As mentioned above, it will be available for free for those who have a copy of the game, but to be able to get the experience of being in the cockpit of the infamous starfighter, players will also have to pick up the PlayStation VR itself and the PlayStation Camera.
