'Star Trek 3' movie plot news: Filming in Dubai?

Star Trek Paramount Pictures

The web is rather unspoken about "Star Trek 3," the third of the legendary science fiction rebooted franchise. But a brand new report brings the much-awaited intergalactic flick to the surface and it involves the location of the filming of the movie.

According to three different sources that recently spilled the beans about the upcoming and still untitled film to an Abu Dhabi-based outlet called The National, the "Star Trek 3" cast and crew will be flying to UAE, Dubai in particular, to shoot a good portion of the film there.

The rumor relies on the fact that some of the A-list individuals behind "Star Trek 3" have reasons to be in the location or have been there. J.J. Abrams, for one, filmed important scenes of "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" in Abu Dhabi, establishing the desert as desert planet of Jakku for the film.

The results were unbelievable as seen in the trailers of the heavily-hyped, internet-breaking film and the place should create the same spectacle for "Star Trek 3." On the other hand, Simon Pegg, who is co-writing the film and starred as Scotty on the first two movies, is believed to be scouting locations for "Star Trek 3."

Pegg was seen in Abu Dhabi many times for several movies that needed to film in the desert and for supposed surveying for a new setting for the movie. More to the point, The National says that he loves wilderness so much he will make it an imperative setting for "Star Trek 3" as well.

Lastly, there's William Shatner, who took part the in the Middle East Film & Comic Convention in Dubai and let slip his alleged cameo appearance in "Star Trek 3" as well as his enthusiasm to shoot in the desert there.

All this, however, remains as unsubstantiated as the alleged title for the film, which is "Star Trek Beyond." This speculation came from Pegg's revelation that "Star Trek 3" will be set in a five-year mission with unfamiliar characters and locations bound to be introduced.
