Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra tablet release date: Sony to unveil a new 6-inch phablet?

Sony Xperia Z Ultra, the predecessor of the soon-to-be released Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra phablet.

Will Sony be releasing any new device soon? To be precise, a new phablet?

It seems that there is something brewing over in Taiwan with reports that the company is in the middle of developing a new 6-inch phablet. Sony has not unveiled a new phablet for some time now but all that could change soon if this report from Taiwan is true. The report first came out from Taiwan's DigiTimes.

Specs for the rumored 6-inch phablet were unfortunately not divulged although it may be something targeted at the mid-range and high-end smartphone segment. The last phablet that Sony introduced in the market was the Sony Xperia Z Ultra (2013) and the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra (2014). Could the mystery tablet be a successor to either?

Sony is expected to reveal the Sony Xperia Z4 this year but as of to date, nothing has been made official. Hence, if there is any truth to this rumor, the good news is that Sony will not be unveiling just one but two devices this year.

For now, all we can do is speculate on the last phablets which Sony had launched in the market.

The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra came with a 6-inch display, a mid-range device. But the largest screen size which Sony had already launched was the 6.4-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra. So if rumors are true, would Sony try to outdo themselves by coming out with a 6.5-inch or higher screened device? If so, would it be out this year alongside the awaited release of the Xperia Z4?

With regards to the Xperia Z4, rumors about the coming device reveal that the said smartphone would be carrying a display featuring a 1440x2560 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 3GB of RAM.

With the first quarter done with and despite rumor claims, seeing another device debut this year alongside the Sony Xperia Z4 may a bit sketchy, unless of course they had purposely kept its development under wraps.
