Sony's next flagship is another reason tech enthusiasts are at the edge of their seats. The titanic tech company, however, keep details about the Xperia Z4 at a minimum and, as expected, rumor mills will have to fill the gap for now.

Tech Radar has reported that the Xperia Z4 has already passed through Japan's certification agency, which concretized how Sony is making headway for the device. As per GSM Arena, the smartphone gained approval from carriers NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and SoftBank.

According to IB Times, the future device will come with a metal chassis and by and large will be adopting the looks of its predecessor, the Z3. Reports indicate that the upcoming smartphone will copy even the Z3's screen size, which is at 5.2 inches. Other claims, however, say that Sony will go for a relatively bigger display measuring 5.5 inches.

IB Times reported that the Z4 will bring a Full HD Triluminos display paired with a 2K screen resolution. Conversely, Tech Radar said a Quad HD screen will make it to the device. The next flagship is also expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor along with a hefty 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage capacity.

In the camera department, there are speculations that Sony will bring a loaded 20.7-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 5-megapixel front snapper. Others say that there will be a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel secondary shooter instead. GSM Arena clarified in its article that the latter specs will likely be for a variant called Xperia Z4 Ultra while the model known as the Xperia Z4 Compact will house the former.

In terms of battery life, IB Times claimed that the Z4 will pack a 3420 mAh battery. GSM Arena said that there will be a 3000 mAh battery and a 3500 to 4000 mAh unit.

Earlier, speculations were proven wrong when Sony did not introduce the device at the Consumer Electronics Show this month. This now has many thinking that the Z4 and all its variants will put in an appearance at the Mobile World Congress scheduled in March. This should spark a competition against Samsung, which is expected to launch its new flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S6, in the same event.
