Sony Xperia Z3 release date: Sprint, T-Mobile to carry phone, Verizon and AT&T to follow?

Sony Xperia Z3 Sony Mobile

After Sony sent out invites for an event scheduled on Oct. 9 in New York City, tech watchers are speculating that it could be the venue where the highly anticipated flagship Sony Xperia Z3 will be released.

The new line of Sony Xperia flagship phones were earlier unveiled during the IFA 2014 convention in Berlin, Germany.  According to the Epoch Times, the Xperia Z3 has been available in Taiwan since Sept. 19, and it was launched in India last Sept. 25. It was also reported that the phone would be released in the U.K. market on Sept. 26.

It is also said that T-Mobile and Sprint will be offering the Xperia Z3 in the U.S. No word yet whether Verizon and AT&T will also carry the newest Sony Xperia phone.

The Japanese electronic brand had been struggling to get into the smartphone industry. It is lagging far behind the mobile phone game, led by Apple and Samsung.

The Sony Xperia Z3 comes in a 5.2-inch IPS LCS display with 2.5 Ghz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 3 GB RAM. It also has a superb 20.7-megapixel primary camera and 2.2-megapixel secondary camera. It is powered with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS.

The smaller but equally appealing Sony Xperia Z3 Compact comes in a 4.6-inch IPS LCD display with 2.5 Ghz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and 2 GB RAM. It also has the same camera specs, and runs using the Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system.

The Oct. 9 event, with the tag line "Demand Great," will start at 1:30 p.m Eastern Time and will go on until 3 p.m.

However, the Japanese company has not yet confirmed if the Xperia Z3 will really be released at this time. U.S. consumers who want to get hold of the new Sony phone will have to wait until then to find out the actual release date of the new mobile device.
