'Sleepy Hollow' season 3 renewed or cancelled? Show's future uncertain as showrunner leaves

"Sleepy Hollow" is now headless. It's not facing toward any direction as the show's third season remains inconclusive. Is "Sleepy Hollow" going to be renewed or cancelled? That is the question of the hour.

There are two primary reasons why the show's fate remains uncertain. First, show creator Mark Goffman, who headed the first two seasons, exited before the series even got renewed for a third season. According to TVLine, Fox is already searching for a replacement for Goffman. Could this mean that Fox is holding off the renewal news until they find a legitimate replacement? And if they do, what will this mean for the show?

The other possible reason why "Sleepy Hollow" isn't renewed yet is due to the huge decline in its ratings. The pilot for season 1 had 10 million viewers and it was followed by an average of 8 million viewers per episode. Because of this, Fox ordered a new season with 18 episodes, that's five more than its freshman year. However, its second season only managed to pull in an average of 4 million viewers per episode, reports Cinema Blend

Fox Television Group co-chairmen Dana Walden talked about the series in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, "We're excited about some creative changes on the show and bringing it back to something that feels a little more episodic in nature, that has closure and doesn't feel quite so serialized. ... But we really love the show. We love Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie. They have fantastic chemistry. We feel like it's a really unique series."

Walden's statement sounded hopeful for a third season, but with the problem of searching for Goffman's replacement and the low ratings, it is really unsure whether "Sleepy Hollow" will go for another run or not.
