'Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem' is more of 'a Shin Megami Tensei-type of game'

Fans are excited for the upcoming "Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem," the much-awaited crossover game of two big, well-loved titles developed by Atlus and Nintendo, respectively. The game is noticeably inclined toward the former, at least on the gameplay front.

In an interview with Gamesbeat, Atlus producer Shinjiro Takata stated that the title is "a Shin Megami Tensei-type of game." The goal, he revealed, was "to do something that the Fire Emblem series can't do" and "only Atlus could make," thus the game is the way it is.

Takata talked more about this with Gamespot, saying, "If you're going to be very strict about it, it is a Shin Megami Tensei game, but it's only similar to it, it's not exactly like Shin Megami Tensei. But we put Fire Emblem elements into that kind of framework."

"Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem" follows a boy who dreams of becoming a Mirage Master, a superstar celebrated for his acting and singing prowess. However, with evil zeroing in on this glitzy world he wants to be a part of, the protagonist will have to get busy making it safe as he tries to get in it.

The Mirage Master aspect, whose inclusion, as Takata explained, is a nod to the modern setting of the game, is heavily depicted in the crossover. This is in acknowledgement to "Fire Emblem," which is also felt in the presence of the weapon triangle during battle.

"Because Fire Emblem has its own world, we had to have these characters enter the modern world as visitors from a mirror dimension called the Idolosphere," Takata said of the upcoming game's premise. "And as there are ally units like Chrom and Shiida who come from this world, there are also antagonists that come from that world as well and want to destroy our world."

Summoning a "Performa" shows that there are "Persona" elements in the game as well.  "Persona" is another RPG series from Atlus.

"Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem" will be released for the Nintendo Wii U next year.
