"Shazam" is only one of the multiple movies Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is starring in. There's the action-adventure disaster film "San Andreas" set to hit theaters in May this year. Add to that the action flick "Furious 7" slated for March. And then there is the DC Comics film adaptation of the adventures of Captain Marvel and the good-turned-bad powerful wizard Shazam.

The actor will be seen in action as Black Adam, the ruler and defender of the fictional kingdom Kahndaq and Captain Marvel's corrupt predecessor who will grow as an anti-hero in the film.

"It's all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he's given the powers, he utilized them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology," Johnson told Total Film magazine as quoted by Games Radar

Johnson also confirmed that "Shazam" will be intertwined with other superheroes in the same emergent DC universe, allowing them to clash and collaborate as well.

"It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected. One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there's a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humor," the actor explained.

"Shazam" is another offering from DC on the horizon. "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, is set to come out in March 2016. "Suicide Squad" is another one in the works scheduled for August 2016.

"Jack the Giant Slayer" writer Darren Lemke will be responsible for the screenplay of "Shazam," which will focus on teenager Billy Batson who becomes a wizard upon uttering the word "Shazam." The rest of the cast remains to be seen. "Shazam" will hit the silver screen on April 5, 2019.
