Samsung finally unveiled its latest line of gadgets at IFA 2014, including the newest addition to its smartwatches collection, the Galaxy Gear S.

But how is it different from Gear 2?

Here is a comparison of the two Samsung smartwatches:

Galaxy Gear 2

This 1.63-inch Super AMOLED (320 x 320) smartwatch has a 1.0 GHz Dual Core Processor and runs using a Tizen-based wearable platform. It is compatible with any Android smartphones from Samsung, but it does not have its own Android OS.

Compared to the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, Galaxy Gear 2 has a 2.0 Megapixel camera with auto focus, and is capable of capturing videos.

This smartwatch, released on April 11, 2014, also has a music player with a Bluetooth headset and speaker, Bluetooth call, camera, SMS, Apps, and email notifications as well as a Remote Controller via IR LED Sensor.

Priced at $300, the Samsung Galaxy Gear is a lot more expensive compared to the other Gear watches released prior to the new one.

Samsung Gear S

This is the latest wearable gear released by Samsung this year. Samsung Gear S has a sleeker design compared to the Gear 2. It is a lot bigger compared to the other Samsung smartwatches, with a 2.0-inch Super AMOLED 360 x 480 pixel curved display.

Just like the Gear 2, Gear S also runs with the Tizen operating system from Samsung. However, this device is the first of its own to work with its own SIM card to have 3G data even without being paired with a smartphone.

In addition, the Gear S is the only smartphone from Samsung that comes with a built-in GPS. There are rumors saying that the South Korean company will work with Nokia to include Here navigation service with this gadget.

No word yet about how much Gear S will sell for in the market, but it is expected to be released by Oct. 2014.
