Samsung Gear S3 release date rumors: Device to feature a Rolex-like case and band?

The Samsung Gear S3 is one of the most anticipated gadgets of the year. It is rumored that the upcoming watch, codenamed Solis, will still be sporting a round shape, with a more manly feature. It will reportedly be similar in looks to a Rolex.

If the latest rumor is poven to be true, the next Samsung Gear S3 will have a metal bracelet, fluted bezel and will be very comparable to the Swiss watch's designs, particularly  the 36mm Rolex Datejust 2. Wareable discovered a post from Tizen's Twitter account which mentions that the Linux-based operating system will be loaded onto the watch.

However, industry experts are expecting that a bunch of lawyers will be knocking on Samsung's door once this design materializes.

Another report from the same publication mentioned that the rumored watch will have model numbers SM-R760, SM-R765 and SM-R770 for the unlocked models, while the carrier based models will have the SM-R765V and SM-R765S model numbers.

"Solis" means "sun" in Spanish, and leaked images show the watch looking like the sun. A round face and the design of the bezel may represent its rays.

It was reported back in April that luxury jewellers de Grisogono revealed that they are working on a high-end version of the Gear S3 and will be officially be released later in the year. The jeweler's representative said, "We are currently collaborating with Samsung to develop its next-generation smartwatch."

Samsung and de Grisogono previously collaborated with the Gear S2 de Grisogono edition and 18k rose gold and platinum versions.

The upcoming smartwatch was also rumored to be offering a bigger display screen, although nothing concrete is pointing to that. The current model has a 1.2-inch display screen.

The Samsung Gear S3 is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming IFA expo in Berlin that will officially start Sept. 2.
