Samsung Gear A vs Huawei Watch specs: Two upcoming new round smartwatches

South Korean firm Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is preparing to unveil its Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, alongside a new smartwatch, on Aug. 12, according to recent reports. The new smartwatch is called Samsung Gear A, which was previously known under the code name "Orbis." The Gear A comes after Samsung's "Gear Live" smartwatch that was released last year.

On the other hand, Chinese company Huawei is also planning to launch for the first time its own smartwatch device called the Huawei Watch sometime this year. The Huawei Watch was unveiled earlier at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 that took place in Barcelona, Spain.

Both these new smartwatches are expected to sport round display screens. Here are the differences between the two wearable devices in terms of the specifications.

For Samsung's Gear A smartwatch, it was revealed this month that it will sport a Super AMOLED display screen with a 360 x 360 resolution. However, it's unclear how large the screen size will be.

According to a recent report by GSM Arena, the new Samsung smartwatch could sport a 1.65-inch display screen, although this size hasn't been confirmed yet. For Huawei's Watch, it will sport a 1.4-inch AMOLED display screen with a higher 400 x 400 resolution.

In addition, the Huawei Watch is designed with sapphire crystal, according to the company, and is covered by stainless steel case. Like Samsung's previous Gear Live smartwatch, the Huawei Watch runs on the Android Wear operating (OS) system, while the new Gear A will run on Samsung's own Tizen OS.

Inside, the Huawei Watch packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor like Samsung's previous Gear Live model. Also, the Huawei Watch comes with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, and a 300 mAh battery. The Gear A, on the other hand, is expected to run on Exynos 3472 processor and feature a larger 768MB RAM, the same 4GB internal memory capacity, and a smaller 250 mAh battery.
