There are many speculations regarding the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8. The latest rumor says that the next smartphone of the series will contain 6 GB of system memory and 256 GB of internal storage.
A new rumor suggests that the upcoming flagship phone will take on the Apple iPhone 7 with 256 GB variant. This is a big increase over the Galaxy S7, which only offers 32 and 64 GB variants. It remains unknown if a memory card slot will be incorporated in the Samsung phone that will add another 256 GB. The Apple smartphone does provide an option for an expanded storage, Dutch Techtastic reports.
There are also speculations that the system memory will be increased to 6 GB for the next phone, which is 2 GB more that the Galaxy S7's 4 GB. It remains unknown if this will be just one variant or all the models will have the same amount of RAM.
Previously, it was also rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will contain a much bigger screen compared to its predecessor. Two new chipsets are also expected to be used with the device: the homegrown Exynos 8895 that clocks in at 4.0 GHz that comes equipped with the powerful Mali-G71 GPU and the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 that contains an Adreno 540 GPU. Both chips are based on the 10 nm FinFET manufacturing process.
Likely to launch during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona, Spain in the latter part of February, the device may also include a pressure sensitive display and an intelligent digital assistant. These are similar to Apple's 3D Touch and Siri. Samsung announced early last month that they have acquired Viv, the AI development company that was behind the creation of Siri.
Additionally, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 could possibly feature a dual-lens camera system at the back, an iris-recognition camera at the front, and upgraded wireless charging. Physical buttons are also speculated to be removed from the front, and it is said that the phone will have a larger battery capacity. The Daydream VR technology is also said to come along with the device.
Samsung has not issued any statement with regards to the specifications and features of its next flagship phone.
