Samsung Galaxy S7 specs leak: Powerful Exynos chipset in new benchmark test, earns record-shattering score

Samsung's newest and most powerful processor apparently showed up in a recent benchmark test by GeekBench.

Believed to be one of the units to be fitted into the Samsung Galaxy S7, the so-called Exynos 8890 chipset --codenamed Mongoose M1 -- earned the flagship a towering score of 6,908 points, which Phone Arena says is the highest a smartphone has ever attained.

The single-core chipset scored 2,294 points in the test too, which is also extraordinary for a mobile device. The processor was touted to be clocked at 2.3 GHz. Given that, Samsung Galaxy S7 could be the most powerful device the South Korea-based tech firm has ever produced.

Comparing it to Apple's newest A9 processor, an iPhone 6s powered by its said in-house unit netted it 2,487 points for a single-core test (slightly higher than the alleged Samsung Galaxy S7's reading) and 4,330 in the multi-core testing, which is around 3000 points lower.

What this means is that Samsung Galaxy S7 could be a formidable force in the smartphone field when it releases next year. This is apart from the other impressive features and specs Samsung is rumored to be preparing for the flagship.

The most recent rumor about the smartphone is that there will be units fitted out with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which shows that although it shunned using the Snapdragon 810 chipset for its overheating issue, it is still enlisting it as a supplier especially with the potentials of the new-gen processor.

Other rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S7 is that it will be the company's first to don a magnesium alloy unibody, which will make it more durable but also lighter, not to mention classy-looking.

It is also being said that the company will be using Turtle Glass, an all new type of glass cover that Samsung itself will produce. Samsung Galaxy S7 is expected to be released around February.
