Rose McGowan slams Meryl Streep and other actresses who plan to wear black to the Golden Globes

Rose McGowan singles out Meryl Streep as she calls out all the actresses who plan to wear black to the Golden Globes as a silent protest against sexual harassment in Hollywood.

In a Twitter post, McGowan named Streep, who has worked with Weinstein on several projects before such as "August: Osage County," "The Giver" and "The Iron Lady." At the 2012 Golden Globes, the 68-year-old actress even compared him to "God," when she thanked him during her acceptance speech for the Best Actress award.

"Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black," the 44-year-old actress Tweeted. "YOUR SILENCE is THE problem. You'll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy."

McGowan finished the Tweet by saying "Maybe you should all wear Marchesa," in reference to the fashion line by Weinstein's estranged wife Georgina Chapman. The said Tweet has since been deleted.

It was earlier reported that several actresses are planning to wear black to the awards show on Jan. 7 as a protest to sexual harassment and assault in the world of entertainment. That is after #MeToo became a trending topic worldwide following the Weinstein scandal.

According to sources, only a small group of actresses originally planned to wear black to the Golden Globes, but more and more have joined since the word got out. As of Dec. 14, at least 30 women are planning to sport the color of death to the awards show.

Asked on the Thursday episode of Extra whether Streep planned to join the silent protest, she said a vague, "I don't know. I'm not talking. You gotta tune in, don't ya?"

Streep has shared a more than cordial relationship with Weinstein until news of his harassment against a number of women in Hollywood broke out.

In October, she told the Huffington Post that she did not know of these offenses.

"I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues. I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts," she said.
