The scheduled new update for ball-slash-car mayhem title "Rocket League" is now live on Windows PC and PlayStation 4.
The most noted new feature for the update is that developer Psyonix introduces punishments for quitters in online ranked matches. In the new patch 1.03, excessive quitting from online ranking fights may get the player banned from any matches for as long as 15 minutes.
Quitting on online ranked matches affects the outcome. When a player abandons, there is no automatic replacement system in place, whether another player or AI, that will take the quitter's place. This means that ranked matches still continue with an unbalanced number of players, and most likely, the team with the least number of players will lose the match.
Aside from the player ban, developer Psyonix also included other new features, such as improving the Quick Chat commands and unlocking cross-platform functionality. Quick Chats can be used between PC and PS4, and vice-versa. In addition, the AI Bot levels now automatically adjust to the average skill levels of all players currently playing, and there is now a system that correctly tracks player stats to properly correspond Garage item rewards.
Aside from system improvements, patch 1.03 also fixes glitches in the previous version, such as the multiple crash scenarios in-game and unlocking Sweet Tooth in the PS4 version, as well as fixing multiple visual optimizations during matches. The update also reduces match instances of the "invisible car" bug.
The update also unlocks and fixes different Garage items, such as correcting visual representations for four country flags – Congo, Mexico, Northern Ireland, and United States. In addition, the "Virtuoso" achievement for Steam is now unlocked, as well as the "Far, Far Away" trophy for the PS4 version's online play mode.
The new patch also introduces an updated and enhanced user interface for both in-game and match menus.
