'Revival' update: Eminem finally reveals release date of upcoming album

After months of anticipation, fans would be glad to know that Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, has finally announced a release date for his latest album titled "Revival." The album is scheduled to be released on Dec. 15. The long wait follows after several months of teasing by Eminem through his social media.

In a report by Variety, the announcement of the album was preceded by the release of Eminem's track with Beyonce, titled "Walk on Water" on Nov. 10. However, it was not well-received by critics since it reportedly failed to meet the fans' tremendous expectations. On Nov. 18, Eminem also made an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" and performed "Walk on Water" along with his greatest hits.

The "Saturday Night Live" and the release of Eminem's song with Beyonce were definitely marketing strategies to build hype around the upcoming album. On top of that, according to NME, Eminem has also been busy on social media by marketing the album in the form of jokes. The style of the promotions done for "Revival" were done through posters of fake pharmaceutical advertisements, with prescription-like descriptions as captions.

"Revival" is meant to complete a trilogy in Eminem's long-running career as a rapper following 2009's "Relapse" and 2010's "Recovery." According to E News Online, music manager Paul Rosenberg posted the first poster of "Revival" back in October, but did not reveal what the poster was for. The poster simply said "Revival" without any context apart from the recurring pharmaceutical gag — which stated that the album is a cure for "Atrox Rithimus."

The official announcement arrived as a video, wherein a man stated, "Today I have great news for all of you suffering from AR. You see, Revival isn't a medication at all. "Revival" is the name of the new album for Eminem."

However, fans who have been closely following the subtle hints are not surprised at all that "Revival" is actually the title of the album. This is because of the bread crumbs left in the descriptions of the campaign leading back to the Detroit rap artist.
