Xiaomi is celebrating its fifth anniversary by introducing a slew of products it plans to throw into the market soon, one of which is another smartphone that is easy on the pocket but big on performance. The rapidly growing China-based manufacturer has recently unveiled the Xiaomi Redmi 2A, which is a modulated iteration of its bestseller, the January-released Xiaomi Redmi 2. Priced ultra-low at $96, the new device indubitably belongs to Xiaomi's entry-level product lineup.
The smartphone's 720p display is set at 4.7 inches. The imaging department is composed of an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Redmi 2A is a unique feat from the so-called Apple of China. Its power is harnessed from a processor developed by Leadcore Technology, a fabless semiconductor company Xiaomi acquired in 2014. This means that under its hood is a quad-core Leadcore L1860C chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz. It also packs a Mali-T628MP2 GPU for the Redmi 2A's graphics. It supports 4G LTE connectivity and has two SIM card slots.
It has Android 5.0 Lollipop straight out of the box but the Material Design is amalgamated with MIUI. Lastly, Xiaomi chose a 2200 mAh battery unit to take care of its juice. Outfitted with fast charging technology, the handset will fully charge up in an hour.
The device retails at 599 yuan but Xiaomi will be putting up a promotion that will lower the price down to 499 yuan. The Redmi 2A is likely to arrive in Xiaomi's markets in China and India and basically where Xiaomi brought its previous offerings.
Apart from the Redmi 2A, Xiaomi also introduced a pink-dipped edition of the Mi Note and a 4K 55-inch Mi TV 2 model. It also brought in a Smart Scale, which tracks a person's weight and BMI. It will give Fitbit Aria a run for its money, plainly because the Xiaomi product is only priced at $16. Then there's the $8 Smart Socket, which has 3 USB charging ports and supports fast charging and a childproof internal shutter mechanism.
