'Rainbow Six' news: 'Siege' closed beta extended until today

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege Ubisoft

Fans of Ubisoft's long-running military shooter "Rainbow Six" franchise are in for a good treat. The closed beta for the upcoming "Rainbow Six: Siege" title is extended for a second time. Originally scheduled to end last Monday, Sept. 28, the closed beta phase was extended to Oct. 1. But Ubisoft posted another announcement, further extending the deadline for players to Sunday, Oct. 4.

According to the official post on Ubisoft's "Rainbow Six" website, the extension has nothing to do with collecting data and feedback but rather a reward for players who have participated in the test plays. Ubisoft has already collected enough feedback for the game's improvement and prepared updates to the development of the title for its December release.

Ubisoft wrote, "We've already identified areas for long-term improvement for launch on our dedicated servers and matchmaking, and we've also pushed several updates that have helped ease the experience for the short-term."

Meanwhile, aside from extending the deadline for the closed beta, Ubisoft also expanded the number of players who can have seen a glimpse of "Rainbow Six: Siege" before its official rollout. Those who have played at least one match when the closed beta rolled out will receive emails with quick access codes that the players can give to their friends, letting their friends into the beta game, too. However, the codes were limited to the platforms of the original beta player, meaning the Xbox One invite codes were given to Xbox One players, and so on.

Ubisoft has also addressed some improvements in the closed beta. According to the announcement, the PvP matchmaking sequences are now faster, with just an average wait time of around 30 second to 45 seconds. In addition, the Terrorist Hunt mode now has 96% chance of success per matchmaking attempt. It is also faster now, at 20 second to 30 seconds of wait time.

"Rainbow Six: Siege" will come out on Dec. 1 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
