LONDON - Two police officers face charges of causing death by dangerous driving after a pensioner died when his car collided with a police vehicle carrying out speed checks.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said on Wednesday that the Lancashire officers, Police Constable Sean Schofield, 38, and Police Constable Andrew Massingham, 41, had been summonsed to face charges over the death.
Peter Williams, 67, from Bolton-le-Sands, died after his car was in a collision with a marked Volvo police vehicle on a B-road between Arkholme and Over Kellet near Lancaster in November last year.
The IPCC said the Volvo was in a convoy of two police cars which were carrying out a training run to test an electronic system for measuring vehicle speed.
Schofield was the Volvo driver while Massingham was driving the lead vehicle in the police convoy.
The watchdog said the two officers had been summonsed to appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court on February 11.
