OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 release date news: New bug fixes and updates

Is OS X Yosemite really close to running your Mac? Apple

Apple did release the iOS 8.4 just recently, but that was not the only update the company had actually rolled out.

Though it was understandable that the iOS 8.4 would be more important to most considering the large volume of Apple mobile users, there was another update released as well -- the OS X Yosemite 10.10.4.

The latest OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 is an under-the-hood update that will bring a lot of new bug fixes and updates, with the infamous Discoveryd headlining the number of issues that the previous version brought for users of the Mac.

Apple did not actually fix the problematic Discoveryd issue but instead reverted to an older networking process which may be familiar to most as mDNSResponder. mDNSresponder has been around since OS X 10.2.

The rollback was made because the Discoveryd has proven to be a problem for Mac users, particularly in the area of networking. This included problems such as sleep, failed resolve DNS names issues, duplicate machine names, Wi-Fi stability, excessive CPU usage and battery drain, among others.

But the Yosimite 10.10.4 OS X brings other improvements:

  • Better aid from the Migration Assistant
  • Improved use of external monitors
  • More reliable upgrading for iPhoto and Aperture libraries to Photos
  • Imroved syncing for photos and videos to iCloud
  • Resolved issues on delays for outgoing email messages
  • Addressing issues pertaining to websites preventing users during navigations with repeated JavaScript alerts using the Safari browser.

But of all the improvements, the resolution of the networking issues is perhaps what most Mac users are more concerned about. Though it remains unclear why the Discoveryd process went haywire and forced the return to the old mDNSresponder, the important thing is that networking issues have been addressed and resolved.

Whether a resolved Discoveryd networking process appears in future updates remains to be seen.
