Original Xbox games on Xbox One won't have achievements

Microsoft announced that there will be no achievements for original Xbox games that have been enhanced for Xbox One. Achievements are a feature that has become synonymous with the word Xbox after it was first introduced during the Xbox 360 era.

When Microsoft announced that it is enhancing several original Xbox titles to make them compatible with Xbox One, fans naturally thought that they would now include the achievements feature. However, in an official message, Microsoft said, "There will also be no Achievements for Original Xbox games because this functionality was also not originally available."

This must have been a complete letdown for Xbox fans, considering Sony added the trophy function when it started rolling out PlayStation 2 originals for PlayStation 4.

But as Microsoft defends, the titles that it is bringing to Xbox One are originals, not remasters, so they can't suddenly have what wasn't originally there to start with.

Despite this lacking feature, fans have a few things to celebrate with the backward compatibility program. The original Xbox games have a system link multiplayer support. This means that they work between all of Xbox consoles, allowing a player to connect the original Xbox to an Xbox One or even an Xbox 360 for multiplayer games.

Also, players who still have their old discs need not buy a digital version to play the original games. But for those who do not yet own such discs, they can be digitally purchased from the Microsoft store.

The Xbox One backward compatibility system introduces 13 original Xbox games that can now be played with much better aesthetics, thanks to the more advanced power of the Xbox One family of consoles. These games will enjoy up to four times the pixel count on Xbox One and Xbox One S and up to 16 times the pixel count on Xbox One X.

The first set of original titles include the favorites "Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge," "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" and "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time."

The backward compatibility system has been live since November 2015.
