'Orange Is The New Black' season 3 to be both funny and serious

The third season of the "Orange Is The New Black" will be both serious and comedic, according to actress Laverne Cox.

The actress talked to MTV while on the red carpet of the Video Music Awards and spilled the beans that fans should expect a mix of tragedy and comedy next season.

"We started shooting season three the first week of June. We should be done around the end of this year. It's amazing. I think more of [what we saw in season two], but what our show does so well is it has a balance between the very serious and the comedic," she said.

She added that it is not fun if the series just focuses on giving serious scenes all the time. She said that it is an aspect of being human to find ways to laugh amidst tragedies in life.

Meanwhile, an exciting group of characters will join the third season, which will include both old and new cast. Topping the list of the new series regulars is Laura Prepon, who plays the role of Alex Vause or Piper's lover. She has been promoted to be a regular member of the cast, which means she will be back in the can.

Moreover, Lolly (Lory Petty) will make a comeback next season. In season 2, she had an encounter with the Piper Chapman. She will most likely be back bringing a new twist in the series.

Spoilers also revealed that comedian Mike Birbiglia, who played Patrick in the film "The Fault in Our Stars," will be part of the cast of "Orange Is The New Black" season 3. Fans were excited to hear this news about the addition of a new male cast member to an almost all-female cast.

"Orange Is The New Black" season 3 will be back on streaming in Summer 2015 on Netflix.
