OnePlus has somehow branched out, moving away from the Android OS umbrella in a manner of speaking. The company has started to use its forked version of the Android OS with the OxygenOS.
The new OxygenOS is a forked version of the Android OS that is somehow similar to the CyanogenMod. It was something developed in-house by OnePlus, an operating system described as a modest refresh of the Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Ideally, companies would rely heavily on Google's Android OS and then pay the necessary royalties. OnePlus, with its new Oxygen OS, could eventually do the same but for now, the real focus is on their own roster of devices.
The OxygenOS will initially and expectedly be pretty bare in the early goings. Such is apparently expected, considering it is an entirely new system that would be similar to placing the company back to the basic. Among the immediate things to expect include the company's focus to address battery performance issues, something that reportedly bloat the OS.
As far as building and improving the OS is concerned, the OS development team plans to listen to the feedback of its customers in making the necessary improvements. OnePlus has opened its door for user inputs, enticing users to take an active part in the OS improvement process and eventually account for a better and reliable operating system which will be to their benefit.
The birth of the OxygenOS was apparently a result of OnePlus cutting its ties with Cyanogen due to a conflict which affected its following in India. And this had something to do with Cyanogen giving MicroMax the exclusive rights which inadvertently locked out the OnePlus One device over the India region.
While it remains to be seen what other features the Oxygen OS would have to offer, it should be noted that OnePlus is using a selective process on which to include. They want to make the OS as light and essential as possible, and not necessarily just being unique or different compared to other operating systems.\
