OnePlus One Android 5.0 Lollipop download available now

After welcoming the new year, OnePlus wasted no time in releasing one update after another for their devices. The mobile manufacturer had an impressive showing in 2014 and they are looking to use that momentum to start 2015 with a bang.

And what better way to start 2015 than by launching the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for their phones. Know Your Mobile reports that OnePlus has already "put together its own software development team." With the team's persistent effort, the first build of the Android Lollipop known as the "Alpha" is now available for download.

The team released a statement saying, "As we look towards the official ROM release in the near future, we will keep to our promise and deliver an experience that is customizable, yet bloat-free with stock-Android-like simplicity by default; we wouldn't ask you to settle for anything less. In the meantime, we thought you'd appreciate an early community preview and a progress report."

Android Police affirmed this news, but added that the Alpha is close to the stock AOSP for the OnePlus One phones. Nevertheless, users should know that this is not yet the final build of the Alpha. The company is just letting everyone in on the new software and is more than willing to share it to all their users now.

Given that this is not the final build, there are some bugs present on the update. For one, "data roaming is on by default" and that flashing can break the phone. The camera and video are still unstable. Sometimes, the clock crashes and the capacitive keys "do not turn off when you enable software keys." Further, Wi-Fi is still unstable.

OnePlus fans can consider this as a sneak peek on how beautiful the Alpha OS will be. But for now, they can enjoy the preview build until the final Alpha comes out, which is speculated to be launched at the end of the month.
