'Once Upon A Time' season 5 spoilers: Couples to go through unique troubles in new episodes

Once Upon a Time ABC

No couple is safe from heartaches, drama and hardships in "Once Upon A Time" season 5. With Emma going dark and Storybrooke in great peril, the romantic relationships in the series are definitely the most strained. The cast of the series couldn't agree more.

For starters, with Emma gone evil, Hook is now struggling to handle and help his true love get back to her senses.

"It's really difficult for Hook because he spent most of last season trying to protect her from the darkness," Colin O'Donoghue, who plays the character, told Pop Sugar

However, he isn't ready to give up just because it's difficult.

"He is fully invested in being in love with Emma and he'll do whatever it takes to bring back the woman that he loves. It's going to be about figuring out a way to bring Emma back," he explained.

Regina and Robin Hood, whose happiness Emma fought for until the very last fiber of her goodness ran out, is still fighting for their happy ending. With Zelena after them, the couple is on the run. Thankfully, Lana Parrilla and Sean Maguire, who play the characters, assured fans that they are going to pull through.

"They have already been through so much that if I was a betting man I would say they're probably going to stay together," Maguire told Pop Sugar, while Parrilla admitted that "it's a complicated one."

"Regina is handling this in a very mature way," the actress said. "It's an unfortunate circumstance. He's going to have this baby, but he's going to be under watch. It's like he's on parole for the rest of his life."

Emma's parents, Snow and Charming, also have their struggles. In bringing Emma back to normal, Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Snow, said they're going to be "tested," with Josh Dallas aka Charming adding that there will be "some tension."

Finally, there's the ever complicated relationship of Rumple and Belle.

"I would be surprised if the writers let this relationship go," Robert Carlyle, who plays the latter, told Pop Sugar. "I wouldn't expect too much from it in the first half of the season; I get a feeling that it'll be more in the second half of the season."

"Once Upon A Time" season 5 will not be easy on the couples when it premieres on Sept. 27.
