Many customers who pre-ordered their Oculus Rift VR headsets are quite upset. These customers will be receiving their virtual reality units by June, while other will get theirs by July.
Oculus has kind of sorted things out with regard to their Rift pre-orders and has sent out emails to customers that contains information about their upcoming VR gear. Many were disappointed with the arrival dates they saw in the email. It will still be at least a month before they get their hands on their new toys, and they have their pre-orders very early when the website opened.
Customers have shared a lot of information with their estimated delivery dates on Reddit. One customer ordered 15 minutes after the pre-order started and the unit will be arriving by mid-June. Another one stated that the VR gear should have been in their hands last March when they ordered them, but they will only be ready by May.
There are also a few who have decided that the new expected delivery date is unacceptable, and have decided to cancel their pre-orders and have gone to the competition -- they have placed their orders for the HTC Vive. The users added that the Vive will be arriving by the end of the month.
There are also other people complaining that they have already bought an extra computer so they can use the Rift immediately. There was also talk about a lawsuit that they should take against the company for the delayed shipping, etc.
However, there were also many who do not really care about the delay. Their point is that as long as they are not yet charged for the product, there is no problem at all. Their lives will not stop because of some delays in the shipment of their Oculus Rift.
Last April 2, Brendan Iribe, Oculus's CEO, announced on Twitter that there will be delays in terms of delivery of the Rift. It was also reported that the delay is due to an unforeseen parts shortage. To compensate for the delays, the company decided to cover for the shipping, locally and internationally, on pre-orders that were made from January until April 1. Many also appreciated the gesture.
For those who are interested in purchasing the Oculus Rift, their website shows an August shipping date, and it is an estimate only. The price is still US$600 plus shipping.
