Android 5.1 OS upgrade coming to NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet?

 shield.nvidia.com

Though the NVIDIA SHIELD is not among the popular tablets out there right now, it is still among the tablets that do run on the Android OS. To be precise, the SHIELD tablet currently runs on Android 4.4. so if you do the math (and the stages it has to go through before reaching the Android 5.0 level), it may take some time before it even stands along the long lines for the Android 5.1 OS.

However, an NVIDIA forum administrator over at the GEFORCE forums hinted that the SHIELD tablet could get an Android 5.1 bump soon. The post seems a bit odd and well, unbelievable if you talk about the conservative approach though if it is true, credit the NVIDIA folks for the effort.

Apparently the NVIDIA guys have been listening to the feedback on the SHIELD tablet and it seems that they have used that to identify and come up with fixes for the said tablet. And all those concerns could be included in an upcoming OTA release which, as they claim, would bump the Android 4.4 OS to 5.1.

The post further adds that the OTA update will deliver a snappier end user experience.

NVIDIA has been known to provide quick updates for its customers though it remains to be seen if they can jump the gun on Google, in reference to the Nexus 9. For the record, the Google Nexus 9 runs on NVIDIA's Tegra chip.

Despite hinting at that Android 5.1 jump, it was not mentioned when the said OTA update would come out.

Aside from the SHIELD, another product in the SHIELD Portable could be getting the Android L 5.1 MR1 bump as well.

And just like the tablet, an official release date for the OTA of the SHIELD Portable was not mentioned.
