Several owners of NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition were having some issues with their graphics card's fan. It revs up and down on its own, no matter the circumstances. This should not be happening at all.
NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition fan goes from 2000 RPM to 3000 RPM and then goes back to its idle speed. No specific scenario can be figured out by its users, not temperature nor power usage. This situation is also not good for its cooling system, thus owners have expressed their concerns to the company, Guru3D reported.
On the GeForce forum, a few hours after the initial complaints from new owners that started May 31, Manuel Guzman of NVIDIA stated that they have already replicated the issue and they were already working on finding a solution. The following day, he stated that a driver fix was in the testing stage and by June 2, he mentioned that a fix will be included in the next driver release. Owners are expecting the driver update to be released anytime soon.
With the sudden spinning of the fan at high revs comes a loud sound as well, and those who weren't able to wait have asked their respective resellers for a replacement, thinking that they just got a lemon unit. However, this was not the case as even the replacement units suffered from the same issue.
Additionally, there was also a flickering issue experienced by several owners of the GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition. Though the issue does not happen during gaming time, the flickering/tearing happens on the desktop screen or while using a browser. Owners have also found a temporary solution, which is to adjust the refresh rate of their monitors to 120Hz. New card owners also see the issue as another bug to fix for the company. Guzman also acknowledged the initial report and said that the software team is looking into it.
The new card owners aren't too happy about it as well. One user said on the flickering issue thread, "Didn't really buy a 165hz monitor to run at 120hz though."
For the meantime, fans are awaiting further announcement from NVIDIA.
