Nintendo Switch's new patch brings video capture and data transfer with limitations

Switch is Nintendo's most modern gaming console. Nintendo

Nintendo has released a new update that brings some highly-anticipated new features to the Switch console. Players will now be able to record gameplay video as well as transfer saved data to another console. However, these new features have limitations that fans may not be so happy to find out.

The new patch upgrades the Nintendo Switch firmware to version 4.0.0, and the first major update it brings is the addition of video capture during gameplay. By pressing the dedicated screen capture button on the console, players will be able to record and save the previous 30 seconds of gameplay footage.

Unfortunately, this feature is only supported on four games as of now. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," "ARMS," "Splatoon 2," and "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" are the said titles. The upcoming game "Super Mario Odyssey" will also support this feature once it is released.

From the console, the capture footage may also be trimmed and shared on Facebook and Twitter. As of now, these two are the only social media options available.

The other big update on the Switch's new version is the capability to transfer data from one console to another. Players can transfer both user data and saved games. However, this feature cannot be used as a way to back up one's data, as the transferred data will automatically be deleted from the source.

"Once the process is complete," Nintendo said in its support site, "the user information, the associated save data, and the software purchased with the user account that is transferred will no longer be available on the source console."

Fans who have been asking Nintendo for an effective way to back up data will most likely be disappointed with this limitation. However, this may be a step toward getting the backup feature sometime in the future.
