Nigeria's Anglican Church Renews Evangelism Focus

The Anglican Church in Nigeria has renewed its focus on evangelism with the recent consecration of six new bishops at The Good Shephard Cathedral Enugu.

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Archbishop Peter Akinola, presided over the consecration, where he advised the new bishops to "shephard the sheep placed under them in a true and forthright way devoid of deceit", according to All Africa Global Media.

The new bishops were told not to dilute the word of God but to approach people with only the true Gospel so that a new generation of Christians could be built to advance the church and world Christianity.

Archbishop Akinola said: "You are to make evangelism a watchword, and endure any suffering encountered in the pursuit of this course, just as Christ endured on the cross."

The reward that they should seek should not be from man, but only God, the Archbishop exhorted, saying, "Christ is the only ultimate rewarder to them that diligently work for him."

Around 90 bishops and three archbishops attended the consecration service, also attended by around 5,000 other believers.
