NFL Kirk Cousins trade rumors: Pending free agent

The National Football League (NFL) Washington Redskins starting quarterback Kirk Cousins might be traded off to another team in the post season. In fact, it has been recently rumored that the New York Jets have been watching closely on whether Cousins would sign with the Redskins for another year, or opt not to.

The deadline for contract re-signing is still two months away, which has led to numerous sports analysts and fans of the NFL to speculate on what could possibly happen to Cousins between now and then. If the 29-year-old quarterback is to re-sign with the Redskins, he would have to be given a $34.5 million for one season with them. It is still unclear if Cousins' heart is fully invested in making a deal with his current team, but he has nothing but respoect for them.

However, as of now, it does not seem like the team is in a rush to re-sign Cousins, and could be looking for other options on the horizon, and strategizing depending on what happens during the offseason. As it turns out, Cousins also hinted that he would be willing to play for the Cleveland Browns, which gives credence to the possibility of Cousins leaving his current team.

In addition to that, the Browns have a major advantage during the NFL draft, securing the first pick and the fourth pick in the first round. These elements will definitely provide Cousins with a brevy of positive options in being the next quarterback of the Browns. It is notable to mention, however, that if the Redskins do not re-sign with Cousins, more options around the league will open up for him.

As reported by Newsday, the New York Jets already have plans of making a deal with Cousins if he becomes an unrestricted free agent in March. The Jets still have plenty of room in their salary cap -- $80 million to be exact. This means they are more than capable of granting Cousins a good deal if the 29-year-old decides to negotiate with them.
