FOX's TV sitcom "New Girl" could possibly see two of its main characters getting hitched. Some reports have stated that Nick Miller (Jake Johnson) and Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel) could end up getting married in the seventh season of the show. It is notable to mention that this news is merely speculation, but this is something that the cast and producers had discussed even before the show was renewed for season 7.
Johnson posted recently on his Instagram page a photo of him wearing a formal suit beside Deschanel, who was wearing a white dress. It is safe to assume that the photo in question was taken during the final moments of the shooting, and it almost confirms the popular fan theory that Jess and Nick will end up getting married. Naturally, the fans expressed their excitement as they sounded off in the comments section of the photo, exclaiming "WEDDING!"
As reported by TV Line, "New Girl" has already concluded production for the show's final season. Deschanel already hinted back in October that the ending of the show would involve a wedding. However, she failed to mention whose wedding it would be. Since then, fans have already speculated that Jess would end up marrying Nick, which would be the cathartic moment that the entire series has been leading up to ever since it aired in 2011.
The seventh season's plot takes place four years after the events of season 6. Jess and Nick seem to be content with the relationship setup that they had in season 6, but a lot can happen in a span of four years. The final season could even begin with the two already happily married.
The synopsis for the second episode of the final season states that Jess will be working for a non-profit organization, which is run by her former lover, Russell Shiller, played by Dermot Mulroney. Does this mean that some friction could occur between Nick and Jess given that this will be the plot so early in season 7?
"New Girl" Season 7 will premiere on FOX sometime in the first quarter of 2018.
