NBA 2015 rumors: Mike D'Antoni interested in coaching Denver Nuggets again

With the Denver Nuggets currently without a head coach, 63-year old Mike D'Antoni is reportedly interested in taking on the role.

The Nuggets fired Brian Shaw recently after leading the Nuggets to a 56-85 record during his tenure. At the moment, the head coaching reigns were inherited by Melvin Hunt on an interim basis.

D'Antoni hasn't exactly been the same coach who was behind the Suns' rise in the mid 2000s. He was best remembered for employing the 'seven seconds or less' offensive system anchored on Steve Nash.

But ever since his departure, D'Antoni hasn't exactly been the same. He struggled coaching the Knicks and more so with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers relieved D'Antoni after the 2013-14 season where he led the team to a measly 27-55 record.

D' Antoni has been so far quiet until now and it remains to be seen if he would be given the chance to call the shots for the Nuggets who are currently toting a 22-39 card over in the NBA Western Conference.

With only 21 games left in their regular season schedule, the outlook as far as making a playoff appearance looks bleak for the Nuggets.

Should the Nuggets hire D'Antoni, it will be his second tenure as head coach for the franchise. D' Antoni had a previous stint with the Nuggets back in 1998-99 which saw Antonio McDyess at the head of it all. After a 14-36 record, Denver fired D'Antoni. With that in mind, could it mix well between the Nuggets and D'Antoni this time?

If so, D' Antoni will have to find a way to mix current stars Ty Lawson, Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried and Danilo Galinari among others, to embrace his system.

D' Antoni has been known to focus more on offense rather than defense so it should be interesting if the Nuggets would be amenable to such a coaching philosophy to help their team turn their fortunes.
