Moto Droid Turbo to receive Android 5.1 Lollipop update on June 10

Android 5.1 Lollipop is at long last headed the Motorola Droid Turbo's way. The Verizon-exclusive handset will make a big leap from Android KitKat 4.4 to the latest build of Google's operating system, officially ending the users' wait.

Back in March, owners of the 5.2-inch device, which was released in October last year, were informed that the Droid Turbo will skip Android 5.0 Lollipop. This meant that they had to twiddle their thumbs more as they watched others savor the sweet taste of the software. But that finally ends on June 10.

The standard Lollipop version was skipped because it lacked the support for VoLTE, which is a central feature to every Verizon handset. But now that Android 5.1 Lollipop is ready for takeoff, it won't be long before Moto Droid Turbo owners enjoy the vibrant animations from the new Material Design.

The update comes with build number 23.11.23 and features from both Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop. These include the new lockscreen notifications, Recent App page and the two-finger Quick Settings. It is also expected to fix issues on the handset's battery apart from providing a battery saver mode powered by Project Volta.

Users will also get to enjoy new and improved security features and Android 5.1 Lollipop also promises snappy app response with an upgraded Android ART runtime. However, Motorola software engineer Luciano Carvalho had previously advised users not to expect a bug-free software as this is "nearly impossible" for now.

What Moto Droid Turbo users can expect is that the update will drop and pop up on their handsets over the air as early as June 10. To manually check the availability of the new software, they could always do so by going to Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Check for Updates.
