'Minecraft' updates: 4J announced username change option, 'Horse' update for PS4

Horse riding anyone? Facebook

4J Studios released the much-awaited "Horses" update weeks ago for PS3 and PS Vita players of "Minecraft" to exploit. PS4 fans had to wait a bit for Sony's testing to get done before they could get their four-legged travel buddy. And at long last, "Minecraft" has now opened the stables and let the horse loose.

"Sony America has completed testing the PS4 update, and it's out now in North America! #MinecraftPS4," wrote its game developer on Twitter.

The world-building game is bringing in horses for players to feed, tend and outfit to battle. There are also hay bales, which should keep the new horses full. Along with the update are new mobs and items such as hardened and stained clay as well as a block of coal.

Meanwhile, the world-famous title will also be allowing gamers to change their usernames. Mojang developer Kristoffer Jelbring teased fans via Twitter with an image of the soon-to-be integrated option, which will be part of an update in the offing. There will be no charge for making the said modification but it will be limited to a certain number of changes within a specified time period. 4J Studios did emphasize through its post in the support page of the game that it will not be available until "Minecraft'" version 1.8.

"We do not yet support changing or editing usernames, though this is planned for the future. We do not have a set release date for this feature," 4J Studios stated on their website. "Username changes will not be available before Minecraft version 1.8. This does not mean that 1.8 is the release date for the username change feature."

The same option came in handy back in 2009 in the "Minecraft" Alpha release, Trusted Reviews recalled. Fans will be delighted to know that it will be back and 4J Studios should be making announcements about the update soon.

While waiting, players have another cool thing to look forward to. Before 2014 ended, gamers learned from Mojang and Telltale Games that they will be treated to a narrative-driven episodic story mode for the game. The new mode will be an original story that will be shaped by the players' choices.
