After Microsoft acquired "Minecraft" developer Mojang AB for a reported $2.5 billion back in September, Xbox division head Phil Spencer started talking about the future of the popular sandbox survival game.
Spencer told Game Spot that they are currently looking into the present needs of the game's avid players before they think about expanding the "Minecraft" franchise.
Players clamor for a sequel of the widely successful sandbox game, but Spencer is still contemplating on the idea.
"I don't know if Minecraft 2, if that's the thing that makes the most sense. The community around Minecraft is as strong as any community out there. We need to meet the needs and the desires of what the community has before we get permission to go off and do something else," the Xbox division head stated.
Spencer also pointed out that the Mojang-Microsoft deal is not solid yet, therefore Mojang still has an upper hand in making the decisions about the game. However, Xbox is already excited to include "Minecraft" in the roster of games under their belt.
"For me, I look at it as a great game to add to our portfolio. I love [the gamer] who plays Minecraft. I love that male, female, young, and old--it's something that lives on so many different screens. I'd love to bring it to more screens out there," Spencer said.
Though Microsoft is intent on acquiring the game, the tech giant promised that "Minecraft" will not be exclusive for Xbox One and Xbox 360 since it will still be available for rival consoles PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 as well as PlayStation Vita.
Reports also say that Microsoft is planning to unify all the available versions of the game using Xbox Live.
"If I'm on PC I get access to the mod servers; if I'm on console or the mobile editions, I don't. We're looking at how do we bring that whole system together a little more. Because there are other games out there that let me move from screen to screen fairly seamlessly," the Xbox executive explained.
