Microsoft Surface Phone specs, release date: Device to boast 8GB RAM?

A leak starring the Microsoft Surface Phone has revealed the device's purported specifications and features, which, if proven true, will help Microsoft make a splash in the mobile world.

Microsoft has failed to capture patrons of its Lumia phones enough to keep the line going. The Redmond-based company is expected to relinquish the smartphone range and start anew.

According to the leaked information from the Chinese forum Baidu, the Microsoft Surface Phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset.

The said processor is claimed to be the first mobile chipset from Qualcomm to be built in 10-nanometer architecture, an upgrade from the Snapdragon 820's 14nm technology.

This simply means that there will be more room in the Microsoft Surface Phone for additional components. In other words, Qualcomm will be able to build a smaller chip.

The Microsoft Surface Phone will be able to house 8 GB of RAM with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 on board since the processor can support that amount of memory, as per reliable leaker, ICEUniverse.

The Microsoft Surface Phone should also benefit from the superior performance and improved power efficiency that the new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor has to offer.

Going back to the Baidu leak, it was also said there that the Microsoft Surface Phone will sport a 5.7-inch display with 2K resolution and a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera.

As it always is with leaks, users are advised to take them with a pinch of salt, and this promising piece of information is no different.

Meanwhile, previous reports suggested that the Microsoft Surface Phone will be released in spring next year, with the new versions of the Microsoft Surface Book and Microsoft Surface Pro.

The software giant is reportedly waiting for the Redstone 2 update on Windows 10, which would allow them to add more features on the device. This update won't be released until early next year.
