Microsoft has officially announced its new Surface 3 tablet, something that will succeed the previous version that will run on a full Windows 8.1 OS.

The new Microsoft Surface 3 Tablet was officially announced via a blog post through the company's website. It is the newest member of the Surface clan which critics believe can give other leading tablets a run of their money. The tablet is affordable, light and thinner, something that should appeal to gadget-crazy individuals for their everyday computing and miscellaneous needs.

The Surface 3 weighs just 1.37 pounds and is categorized as an entry-level device. The tablet features a slighter smaller packed 10.8-inch screen (1080p resolution) and will run on the company's latest 8.1 OS but will be eligible to be upgraded to Windows 10 once the latest Microsoft operating system is launched.

Other notable features that the Microsoft Surface 3 offers include an Intel Atom-powered processor, 2 GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It will also have two cameras in tow – an 8MP rear camera and 3.5 MP front-facing camera. The tablet will also have the same kickstand that the Surface Pro 3 had.

The tablet will also be equipped with a USB 3.0 port, allowing it to be easily connected to monitors and other devices. Microsoft will also be offering accessories to go with the Surface 3 such as a Type Cover which allows the tablet to be transformed into a laptop. A Surface Pen will also be made available which will work as a Stylus Pen.

For those who are interested, the Microsoft Surface 3 can now be pre-ordered via the Microsoft website.

The Microsoft Surface 3 is set to be released by May 7 in 26 markets with prices starting at $499. In the UK, the tablet will be available on the same date and is priced starting at £419. A 126GB storage version will also be available for £499.
