Microsoft shoots down Windows RT, pressure on for Windows 10 platform

Microsoft has been coming up with different kinds of mobile phones but it doesn't appear that the same will hold true for their tablet segment, at least for the time being.

This comes at the heels of the company officially announcing that they will cease production for the Lumia 2520, Nokia's tablet that ran on the Windows RT platform. This follows a week after the company had ceased production of the Surface 2. With the Lumia 2520's demise, it could very well mean the end of the RT platform.

However, Microsoft did make it clear that the Lumia 2520 will still be available for customers who still want to get hold of one. To do so, potential buyers can still head on over to Microsoft Retail Stores, MicrosoftStore.com, third-party retailers and resellers.

But the real issue here is that the company is phasing out the Windows RT OS. With its existence seemingly irrelevant with the coming of Windows 10, the said OS is now deemed dispensable.

As far as others who have produced Windows RT tablets, they are expected to shift their attention to the Windows 8/8.1.

The move is something seen by many as to be expected seeing that Microsoft had too many operating systems to offer. Such made users confused and apparently now, the company is maintaining the only ones that could be used in various platforms although Windows 10 is claimed to be one that would work on all of them.

And on that note, the pressure mounts for Windows 10. Though through word of mouth and on paper it seems that the next Windows OS is as flexible as they come, it remains to be seen if there would be conflicts along the way, particularly in smaller devices.
